CALL FOR ARTISTS

? Native American, Alaskan native and native Hawaiian artists are asked to apply for the 2014 Native Arts and Cultures Foundation Artist Fellowships by the deadline on May 3. The foundation includes dance, filmmaking, literature, music, traditional arts and visual arts. Artists must demonstrate artistic excellence, having made a significant impact in their discipline, earned respect from their colleagues, and achieved recognition in the field. ?The Branigan Cultural Center is accepting proposals for solo and groups exhibitions to be presented in 2014. Artists and scholars living and working in the Southwest, or working with themes of cultural significance are eligible to submit. ? The City of El Paso Museums and Cultural Affairs Department announces applicant assistance workshops. MCAD has awarded more than $2.5 million to local artists and arts organizations for programs, services and works. ? The Do?a Ana Arts Council is seeking nominations for its annual awards. If you know

someone in the community who deserves to be recognized for their support of the arts and/or creative talent, this is your opportunity to nominate them for an award. The Do?a Ana Arts Council annually honors special individuals who are actively involved in promoting and enhancing the visual and performing arts in our community through leadership, support and advocacy. ART CLASSES

CALL FOR MUSICIANS

? St. Paul's United Methodist Church, at the corner of Alameda and Griggs in downtown Las Cruces, is preparing a performance of Anton?n Dvorak's "Stabat Mater" for 6 p.m. May 12. Dr. Douglas Weeks will be conducting the performance by choir, soloists and orchestra of this beautiful late 19th century choral work. Singers from across the community regardless of affiliation are invited to sing this monumental work. Rehearsals will be on Wednesday evenings at 8 p.m. in the choir room at St. Paul's, with occasional Saturday afternoon rehearsal times. Scores will be provided. Interested singers may contact Weeks at 575-644-6999 for more information, or simply attend the Wednesday evening rehearsals.

? The New Horizons Symphony is seeking percussionists, cello, bass and violin players for their upcoming concerts. ? The Rio Grande Recorders are seeking new bass, tenor and alto players. The group conducts monthly sessions and weekly practices. CALL FOR FILM

? The 168 Film Project announces a Call for Entries for the 11th annual speed filmmaking contest. Filmmakers get 10 days for writing and pre-production and then exactly 168 hours to shoot and edit an up-to-10-minute film. Teams worldwide will vie for six figures in cash and prizes. Entry fees range from $168 to $348 and include free Festival Passes and the change to screen at the 168 Film Festival Aug. 8 to 11 in Los Angeles. Entry deadline is May 11 and any size team may compete with any size budget. Teams are responsible for all production expenses. Info: 168film.com.
