(AP Photo/Tony Avelar, File)

(AP) ? K'naan kicked off a free concert in Central Park on Saturday evening that also included performances by Black Keys and John Legend to call attention to poverty worldwide.

Dubbed the Global Citizen Festival, the concert lineup featured Neil Young, Band of Horses and Foo Fighters as well. Video of the event was streamed worldwide as about 60,000 music fans poured into the park.

The concert included a surprise appearance from Legend, who played "Imagine" at a piano on the Great Lawn stage, a short walk from where the song's author, John Lennon, once lived.

The concert was scheduled around the meeting of the United Nations General Assembly in New York this week and organizers used an innovative approach to ticket distribution so that many concert-goers were forced to learn about an array of global problems, such as polio, malaria, child mortality, and polluted drinking water, in order to get a ticket.

Anyone wanting free tickets had to register at globalcitizen.org, which then required users to watch videos or read information about poverty-related issues. Each time material was consumed, users could earn points toward a drawing for tickets. Points were also accumulated by sharing information via Twitter or Facebook.

"Our social media campaign has been off the charts," said Hugh Evans, CEO and co-founder of the Global Poverty Project. The approach demonstrates a new model for harnessing digital tools that may be repeated for other big events with political or social messages.

Organizers said more than 71,000 people had signed up online, resulting in more than 3.5 million page views. On average, they spent just over six minutes consuming content or sharing information. Nearly 200,000 pieces of information were shared on Facebook, and just a bit more than that on Twitter. About 170,000 people signed petitions via the site, and there were 98,000 videos viewed to completion.

Evans said the project achieved its goals, set out last year, of getting more than 100,000 people to take action related to extreme poverty while telling a new story about the challenges. To that end, the site conveys information in detailed, documentary-like accounts and uses an array of video, graphics and stories that are friendly for mobile and digital consumption.

Financially, he said, the project also achieved its yearlong goal ? working with an array of organizations like the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, the Earth Institute and Rotary International ? of garnering $500 million in commitments to help fight poverty.

So now what?

Evans said that he's hoping the audience, built online and at the concert, will continue efforts by tweeting President Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney to halve extreme poverty by 2015, which is the key U.N. anti-poverty goal. And Evans is working on an announcement in October or November about "a major rock band" getting involved with the anti-poverty efforts.

Coastal Home: 10 Ways To: Make your house a home

Follow these 10 easy steps and you will be on your way to making your house feel like a home.

? ? ? ?? With a little help you can turn up the warmth in your space to create a comfy, inviting home.
1. Collections.
If you collect something, show it off.? A collection shows your personality and love of something, while adding character to a space.
2. Salvage something old.
Did you find a great vintage boat light but it just sits there without a purpose in your garage gathering dust. Refurbish it and hang it proud for all to enjoy, tell the story of where you found it.
3. Stack your books.
Your books say something about who you are and what interests you. Find excuses to exhibit them in every room. They are great conversation starters and give you a platform to display a shell you collected on your favorite beach.
4. Flaunt your photographs.
Photographs tell the story of your family. Buy some fun frames and insert photos from your most recent vacation or family adventure.
5. Vacation finds.
Next time you are on vacation and find something special that sparks your interest bring it home. Vacation finds are a fun way to identify places and memories significant to you. Mail it home or make room in your luggage for the piece of driftwood you fell in love with.
6. Paint.
Paint is the least-expensive way to make your white box feel like home. Color can add life to a cold sterile room. Was there a color you fell in love with while visiting the Hampton's? Why not recreate that feel in your own space, even if you just paint the door.

7. Conceal the technology.
This is not your office cubicle. Only Geek Squad will be impressed to see your multiple remotes and little white wires, so hide your giant tech savvy remotes in a basket, vintage trunk/ coffee table or chest by the sofa.

8. Lighting.
When entertaining turn the lights on. Turning on your lamps adds warmth and color to the room.? A dinner party is not the time to save electricity.
9. Blanket the house.
Do you have a handmade blanket or quilt that you inherited? Maybe you picked up a great indigo throw recently. Pull out the blankets and? lay them over the backs of the chairs or sofa. Having a blanket close by makes you feel comfy and cozy at home. 10. Relax, It takes a lifetime to achieve character.

Not every room needs to be beautiful. A kid?s room can be kid?s room.? A house should be lived in, things like scratches in the wood floor, add character. The more you personalize it, the more it will feel like home and be a place you will miss when you are away for too long. The best homes evolve over time, be patient.

Clinton urges tolerance amid anti-US protests

(AP) ? Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton appealed Monday to Muslims to show "dignity" and not resort to violence as they protest an anti-Islam film produced in the United States.

Speaking at her husband's Clinton Global Initiative before meeting the presidents of Afghanistan, Egypt, Libya and Pakistan on the sidelines of the annual U.N. General Assembly, Clinton said the United States would always champion the rights to peaceful protest and free expression even if it deplored the content of the speech. But, she said, "dignity does not come from avenging insults."

Her comments came as demonstrators angry over the vulgar depiction of the Prophet Mohammed in the video continue to protest around the Muslim world and Pakistani government minister put a $100,000 bounty on the head of the filmmaker.

"Dignity does not come from avenging insults, especially with violence that can never be justified," Clinton said. "It comes from taking responsibility and advancing our common humanity."

Fomenting grievance, she said, produces violent protests that accomplish nothing in the way of improving living standards, creating jobs or developing societies.

"Building schools instead of burning them, investing in their people's creativity, not inciting their rage, opening their economies and societies to have more connections with the wider world, not shutting off the internet or attacking embassies" is the way to better life, she said.

"Extremists around the world are working hard to drive us apart," Clinton warned. "All of us need to stand together to resist these forces and to support democratic transitions under way in North Africa and the Middle East."

The Obama administration has been grasping for ways to try to tamp down the fury over the video, especially in Pakistan, where some of the most intense and sustained protests have been held. The U.S. Embassy in Islamabad released public-service advertisements showing President Barack Obama and Clinton denouncing the film.

Compounding the difficulty, Pakistan's railways minister offered $100,000 to anyone who kills the maker of the film. The Pakistani government disavowed the bounty on Monday, just hours before Clinton met President Asif Ali Zardari.

"We very much appreciate the strong response of your government," Clinton told Zardari.

Zardari replied: "It's been a difficult time for all of us."

Senior U.S. officials present at the Clinton-Zardari meeting said all members of the Pakistani delegation had condemned the bounty. One, who is a member of the railway minister's political party, told the Americans that the party would soon be considering his future role.

One of the U.S. officials said Clinton's team was "comfortable with that response." The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss details of the meeting.

Later, Clinton met with President Mohammed el-Megaref of Libya, where the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans were killed in a Sept. 11 attack on the consulate in Benghazi. She thanked him for the support offered by his government in the aftermath of the attack and praised the Libyan people for overthrowing Moammar Gadhafi last year.

"Courage has been the defining characteristic of the Libyan people over these last two years," she said. "Courage to rise up and overthrow a dictator, courage to choose the hard path of democracy, courage to stand against violence and division in the country and the world."

El-Megaref called the consulate attack "a very painful, huge tragedy, not only for the American people and the families of the victims, but also for the Libyan people." He noted that thousands of Libyans had marched in the streets to protest the attack and said those demonstrations "embodied the conscience of the Libyan people."

"What happened on (the) 11th of September toward these U.S. citizens does not express in any way the conscience of the Libyan people, their aspirations, their hopes or their sentiments toward the American people," he said.

Clinton also met Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi. A U.S. official said Clinton and Morsi spoke about the importance of ensuring the security of U.S. diplomatic offices. Morsi stressed that embassy security was Egypt's duty, according to the official, who wasn't authorized to speak publicly about the private meeting and requested anonymity. It was the highest-level U.S.-Egypt meeting since protesters stormed the U.S. Embassy in Cairo on Sept. 11.

Obama is speaking to the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, but on Monday left the bilateral meetings with heads of state to Clinton while he taped an appearance on the daytime talk show "The View."

34 Degrees South Olive Oil, Edwards Wines and Gabriel Chocolate ...

34 Degrees South Olive Oil, Rosa Brook

Latitude 33?55?51? South (rounded up to ?34 Degrees South?), Longitude 115?12?39? East are the coordinates for Margaret River. Although the region is famous as wine country, its grape-friendly climate also provides perfect conditions for the growing of olive trees.

Well, maybe not-so perfect conditions all the time! It?s raining hard and there are muddy pools everywhere when we arrive at 34 Degrees South Olive Oil. We are ignored by the resident flock of geese busily hunting for snacks in the soft wet ground while the raindrops pelt down.

Geese hunting for snacks while it rains

The olive farm was started over 12 years ago by Sydney and Sharon Dunford on this 135-acre property, out of which 80 acres are now devoted to olive trees. The Dunfords are involved in all aspects of production, from the growing, harvesting, processing, bottling and all even down to the labelling.

We begin our tour with a brief tasting session. Olive oil tasting is an interesting experience. It?s not at all like wine or chocolate tasting, where it?s too easy to keep on ?tasting?. I don?t know anyone who willingly drinks oil, so there?s a bit of natural reluctance to overcome. We certainly don?t knock the samples back like shooters ? we take delicate, tentative sips, and I notice I?m not the only one trying not to grimace when we begin. But it?s really not too bad as long as you don?t gulp the samples down. The main difference I detect between these extra virgin olive oils is their degree of pepperiness. The last oil is everyone?s favourite and the easiest to ?drink? ? lime-infused olive oil, which we are told is best drizzled over dishes just before serving ? cooking with it diminishes the lime flavour. In between tastings, we each grab a slice of fresh Granny smith apple to help cleanse our palates. You?ve never seen a group of people so thankful for apple.

Olive oil tasting

Olive oil tasting ? I can?t say I?d be keen to be an olive oil judge at the Royal Show ? give me cakes, pies, ice cream or cheese any time!

Sharon explains the process used to create olive oil, starting from the harvesting of fruit. The processing plant is right here on the property. The olives are crushed within 8 hours of picking and run through a centrifugal decanter which separates the oil from the rest of the olive components. The waste produced from the processing is mixed with manure, used in worm farms and goes back into the olive grove, feeding future crops. The farm and the olive oil produced are completely organic.

Sharon explains the olive oil production process

Olives

Some of our party enjoy the briny taste of these olives.

Next, we visit 34 Degrees South?s shop, in a custom-made tent on the property that?s been fitted with jarrah timber floors and decking, where we sample more extra virgin olive oils and munch on olives (not me ? I like olive oil but don?t like olives ). In addition to olive oil, 34 Degrees South also produces dukkah and scent-free olive oil soap, good for use by people with sensitive skin.

Throughout our visit, Spice the border collie runs around happily in the rain. Even as the downpour grows heavier, she?s out there, not a care in the world, tail wagging merrily.

It?s a little difficult to finish the pruning while the rain is so heavy. But Spice doesn?t mind.

At Edwards winery, Christo Edwards tells us the story of this bright yellow Tiger Moth plane named Matilda which belonged to his dad Dr Brian Edwards.

In 1990, Dr Edwards made an epic six-week trip flying Matilda solo for 12,000 nautical miles ? from Hatfield, England to Langley Park in Perth. He was raising money for Legacy, the charity which supported his family after his pilot father Clifford disappeared while flying a bomber in World War 2.

Matilda

Matilda. I can?t imagine what it was like flying in this on a six week journey.

Dr Edwards? remarkable and eventful journey is documented in a book called The Matilda Mission (1993). Although Matilda?s flying days are over, she is proudly on display in the hangar located near the cellar door, a great source of interest for visitors to Edwards.

Across the wall inside the cellar door, dots mark Matilda?s England to Australia journey

In 1991 Dr Edwards and his wife Jenny bought this property as their country retreat, particularly appealing to Dr Edwards as he could get an airstrip along the back boundary. The first vines were planted in 1993. Sadly, Dr Edwards passed away around 7 years ago from leukaemia, but the family winery is going strong with Christo (viticulturalist) and his brother Mike (winemaker) at the helm. Edwards has won several Perth Royal Show wine awards and will be entering again in this year?s show.

Gabriel Chocolate, Yallingup

Our final stop before we drive back to Perth is Gabriel Chocolate in Yallingup. Regular readers will know I have been here before ? but I?ll happily come back here any time.

Lawyers don?t just go on Masterchef Australia ? some of them become chocolate makers. ?Why chocolate?? a few of us ask. Gabriel grins and responds without hesitation: ?Chocolate makes people happy?. After 8 years of research into chocolate-making and dreaming of a different life, ex-lawyer Gabriel, his wife Ruth and four children moved to Dunsborough a year ago to establish Gabriel Chocolate, specialising in producing single origin bean to bar chocolate.

Gabriel Myburgh of Gabriel Chocolate.

The beans come from Ghana, Indonesia, Ecuador and Venezuela but the chocolate?s made right here in on these premises in Yallingup, Western Australia.

The cocoa beans are hand-sorted, then roasted in a custom-converted chicken rotisserie. A machine called a winnower breaks the shells off the beans to reveal the cocoa ?nibs?, which are ground to create cocoa liquor (not alcoholic), to which other ingredients are added to make chocolate. The shells and cocoa remnants are collected and go to local craft brewery and cidery Cheeky Monkey where they are used in the making of chocolate stout.

The chocolate bars are produced on the premises, wrapped by hand and sold in the shop.

Sorting cocoa beans

Gabriel gives us some freshly made chocolate to taste. Everyone dips their popsicle sticks in ever so politely. Well done, everyone.

We then taste Gabriel?s single origin chocolate. Like grapes and coffee, cocoa beans grown in different regions around the world under different environmental and climate conditions including temperature, humidity, rainfall and so on develop their own characteristic flavours, which are reflected in the chocolate.

Gabriel tells us he?s working with a number of local wineries to develop wine and chocolate pairings.

Chocolate tasting with Gabriel

Due to popular demand, Gabriel?s added white chocolate to his range. Unlike many commercial white chocolate products which contain no cocoa butter and are not really chocolate at all, Gabriel?s version is made with cocoa butter and vanilla. It?s ?white? because no cocoa liquor is used, yet you?ll see it?s not as white as standard commercial products. If you like white chocolate, it?s definitely worth a taste.

Chocolate tasting at Gabriel Chocolate, Yallingup

Staff are available to guide you through the tasting, sharing insights into the origin of the cocoa beans and the processes involved in making the chocolate.

After our tasting session, it?s time for a little chocolate shopping (and for some of us, even more chocolate eating). There are milk, dark and white chocolate bars available as singles or in packs. Chocolate bars with dried fruit and other flavours added are called ?mendiants?. Gabriel and his team are constantly experimenting with flavour combinations ? latest combos include lime and wasabi, green tea and black sesame? I reckon they should do a cocktails range ? what do you guys think about margarita, with lemon and salt? Or mojito, with mint leaves and lime?

Chocolate on display.

Hot chocolate (available in milk or dark) is the drink of choice here.

The first time I visited, I regretted not trying one of Gabriel Chocolate?s housemade ice creams, hand-dipped in chocolate. I?m not going to miss out this time.

Ice creams

The strawberry ice cream is wonderfully creamy and tastes of fresh fruit. The crisp chocolate coating cracks when I bite into it. This is pure pleasure.

Romney says he supports '100 percent in America'

MIAMI (AP) ? Facing tough questions about his commitment to all Americans, Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney declared Wednesday that his campaign supports "the 100 percent in America."

Romney was responding at a televised forum to questions sparked by his remarks last spring that, as a candidate, "my job is not to worry about" the 47 percent of Americans who don't earn enough to pay income taxes and are likely to support President Barack Obama. He also described them as people who are "dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe they are entitled" to a wide range of benefits.

In the days since the magazine Mother Jones posted the secretly taped comments to donors, the Romney campaign has tried to fend off criticism that the Republican candidate was writing off nearly half the country or was disdainful of them.

Earlier in the day, Romney tried to draw a distinction between himself and Obama. "The question of this campaign is not who cares about the poor and the middle class. I do. He does," Romney said at an Atlanta fundraiser. "The question is who can help the poor and the middle class. I can. He can't."

Romney has said he was talking on the video about support for his campaign, a point he returned to Wednesday at the Miami forum hosted by the Spanish-language TV network Univision.

"I know that I'm not going to get 100 percent of the vote and my campaign will focus on those people we think we can bring in to support me, but this is a campaign about helping people who need help," Romney said.

"My campaign is about the 100 percent in America," he said.

The forum, which was broadcast nationally in Spanish from a swing state that could help decide the presidential contest, was an opportunity to court Hispanics. That growing voting bloc overwhelmingly supported President Barack Obama four years ago.

However, the televised session initially focused on the caught-on-tape remarks, the latest in a string of missteps on domestic and foreign policy for the Republican candidate seven weeks out from Election Day.

Speaking to Romney in Spanish, the Univision hosts peppered him with questions about the video before turning to his reluctance to clarify his immigration policy and to his support for Arizona's controversial immigration law.

Romney backed away from his support earlier in the year for policies that would promote "self-deportation" of illegal immigrants. He said he supported policies that might give legal status to young illegal immigrants who serve in the military or pursue higher education.

"We're not going to round up people around the country and deport them," he said. "We need to provide a long-term solution."

He declined to detail his solution, despite being pressed by the hosts.

Romney assailed Obama for failing to deliver campaign promises to overhaul the nation's immigration system.

"He never tried to fix the immigration system," Romney said of the Democratic incumbent. "I will actually reform the immigration system and make it work for the people of America."

The Obama campaign responded by arguing that Hispanic voters have reason not to trust Romney.

"On critical issues, he continued to refuse to answer any of the tough questions or provide any specifics on what he'd do as president," Obama campaign official Stephanie Cutter said in a statement.

Obama is scheduled to participate in the same forum on Thursday.

LESSON OF PAST IN CHINA SHEDS LIGHT ON PRESENT

WASHINGTON -- Attempting to rise above our "inspirational" political conventions last weekend, I gratefully picked up a book by the brilliant Barbara Tuchman that I had not read -- "Stilwell and the American Experience in China, 1911-45."

This saga would surely carry me away from the increasingly oppressive policy questions of today, from the talk about decline and indecision among our ruling classes. Also, it is a big book, published in 1970; that probably meant that no intellectual smart-aleck friend of mine would argue with me about it.

I settled in.

I leafed through, reading sections I liked about the fabled American Gen. Joseph Stilwell. Not surprisingly, Tuchman won her second Pulitzer Prize for this book. Stilwell spoke Chinese and knew that torn "nation" as no other American. They didn't call him "Vinegar Joe" for nothing; he had an acid wit and a bitingly realistic, analytical mind. He was one of the main American players in China following its revolution of 1911 to his own death in 1946 before the victory of the Chinese communists in 1948.

And then I settled out.

It did not take me long to realize I was, in many ways, reading an early version of what is happening today. And I dwelled on Tuchman's concluding words, which sum up the sad and wistful decades-long American experience with China (emphasis mine):

"Stilwell's mission was America's supreme try in China. He made the maximum effort because his temperament permitted no less; he never slackened and he never gave up. Yet the mission failed in its ultimate purpose because the goal was unachievable.

"The impulse was not Chinese. Combat efficiency and the offensive spirit, like the Christianity and democracy offered by missionaries and foreign advisers, were not indigenous demands of the society and culture to which they were brought. Even the Yellow River Road that Stilwell built in 1921 had disappeared 12 years later. China was a problem for which there was no American solution.

"The American effort to sustain the status quo could not supply an outworn government with strength and stability or popular support. It could not hold up a husk nor long delay the cyclical passing of the mandate of heaven. In the end, China went her own way, as if the Americans had never come."

I sat for a time and just thought about that ending. Then, impatient for context, I switched on the news. Over the same weeks our political conventions were held, attacks on the Shiite government in Iraq, our formation, intensified -- up to 94 dead last weekend alone. In Afghanistan, murders by Afghan recruits against our own troops had become so alarming that training was stopped in a kind of stupefaction.

Meanwhile, in Pakistan, our great "ally" in the Near East, every American diplomat who returned from analyzing the situation reported that it was simply hopeless -- Pak intelligence was supporting the very Taliban that we were fighting.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, on his recent trip to the Middle East, strongly suggested he would support striking Iran's nuclear installations, with or without Israel, with God only knows what outcome, and probably making moves on the mad chess game of Syria as well. President Barack Obama has at least moved our troops largely out of Iraq, and was obviously getting all holy hell tired of the "ungrateful" Afghans, who turned political color even before the seasons changed.

At this point, I began to think of how wise Barbara Tuchman was. Our intervention in China, supporting the Nationalists under Chiang Kai-shek against the Communists, was after all the primary American international cause, outside of all-out war, of the first half of the 20th century.

World War II was, of course, a mammoth, if costly, success. But we were able to make it so because we won supremely. That meant we could rebuild Germany in our image; that meant a brilliant, if touchy, commander like Gen. Douglas MacArthur could place himself in the position of the emperor and transform the entirety of military Japan.

But we never had that power in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Salvador, Nicaragua, Lebanon, Somalia, and, yes, even current Iraq and Afghanistan. We are now in the process of leaving those last two in indeterminate chaos and in existential states of war. The question now is: never again or ever again?

The answer is embedded in Tuchman's warnings of 40-some years ago. Our goals were "unachievable" -- they couldn't happen. There was never any "American solution" to China's problems because we never heard the background whispering of their indigenous demands. And in the end -- how sad -- it was "as if the Americans had never come."

Kobo announces three new readers one glows, one's small, one runs Ice Cream Sandwich

As the saying goes, it's all in the timing. But look at it this way: Kobo could have announced its new line of devices the day after Amazon's big reveal. Instead, the outfit's looking to take some wind out of Amazon's sails a few hours before its big event. And while the chances are extremely slim that the company will manage to undercut the looming Kindle news, there's no question that it's coming out of the gate swinging, with the announcement of not one, but three new readers: one glowing, one mini and one slathered in Ice Cream Sandwich. The mini and glowing Gio Comfortlight will arrive in October, with the Android-based Arc arriving in November. All told, they'll range in price from $80 for the Kobo Mini to $250 for the top-end tablet. That's the short version, but if you follow past the break we've got a full rundown of the specs, along with additional photos.

My private knowledge with GenF20 motivated me to send this short article. The overview may possibly help
other persons like me.

In the age of 45, I looked much older. I knew extremely properly that sooner or later I?ll be an
old man and can look like one particular. But what I didn?t want was searching prematurely old. It was
my conviction that I was a young man at that age and I wanted to appear like that. I knew
regarding the existence of lots of food supplements which supplied HGH to the physique from external
sources. What dissuaded me from utilizing them was the ill effects of having HGH from outside
sources.

The anterior pituitary gland produces the growth hormones. If HGH comes for the body from
outside, it is going to make the pituitary gland producing less and less of HGH. Within the long run,
it is going to render the gland ineffective and HGH production totally stopped. My search
continued for a suitable remedy for my premature aging. I heard of GenF20 Plus which does
not supply HGH directly, but stimulates the pituitary gland to make far more HGH. I wanted
to?buy GenF20 that and bought a pack adequate for a single month.

GenF20 comes inside the kind of a pill. It has to be taken beneath the tongue. I use it twice a
day. It didn?t take a lot time to see the final results. Inside a week I felt as if all of the
energy of my youth has come back. I identified the premature wrinkles on my skin decreasing. My
bones became stronger. My memory has improved.

It really is now one year considering that I began applying GenF20 Plus. Now I can concentrate on the perform I?m
performing, which I couldn?t ahead of. I?m no more the laughing stock of my colleagues, but
rather, the object of their envy. I am entrusted with quite a few significant missions. The levels
of my bad cholesterol have come down even though those of excellent cholesterol have gone up.

I?m happy I made use of GenF20 Plus. It truly is made of all-natural ingredients only. You can find no harmful
unwanted side effects. Now I feel that I am in my late twenties. Right after I started making use of this food
supplement my sex life has also enhanced. My lean muscles have created. I appear trim and
healthy. Now I think my decision to work with GenF20 was a wise a single. It has accomplished me a world of
very good. I got my self-confidence back.

The process of testing and tagging in Australia is strictly regulated. That means you just can't hire anybody to check your electrical machinery and connections without a certification from regulatory bodies. It doesn't even matter if the person is a licensed electrician or not, he still needs to undergo training on safety testing and inspection given by an authorized training group. So be sure to ask for proof of this training from your contractor. What you need to look for in your contractor Even without the appliance test and tag tools, the electrician should have the proficiency to conduct an eye test of your electrical equipment. He should know if the wire is protectively earth or doubly insulated that follow the standards. The contractor should have the skills to utilize instruments, analyst and interpret the results and then suggest the correction. Don't hire the services of a contractor that has no identification card, certification, proper gauging equipment to test your appliances and electrical connection. Price should be the least of your considerations when hiring a test and tag contractor so don't be swayed by offers of cutting half of the typical cost of the procedure in Australia. If the contractor is willing to cut cost, you may be compromising your safety because he may be shortcutting the process or not using the proper equipment. You could pay stiff fines You may think that employing the services of an unlicensed electrician can save you money but that's just a myth. Australia has pretty stringent requirements when it comes to electrical safety procedures. Queensland has in fact passed a bill which slaps hefty fines on those who hire a contractor that received no formal training on A1 testing and tagging, regardless of whether the decision was intentional or not. In urban areas, faulty wiring system or overloaded circuits are the most reported causes of fires in Australia. In case of fire, you have no way of going after the unlicensed electrician but the state can go after you. Safety guaranteed In contrast, hiring licensed contractors will guarantee safety in your electrical equipment. According to the law, they have to undergo trainings every now and then to update their skills which will only translate to benefit the households and companies employing their services. Their equipment is also constantly being tested and calibrated to prevent fluctuations and errors in readings. These contractors therefore are in a position to supply your testing and tagging needs.
