Temptations singer Otis 'Damon' Harris dies after prostate cancer ...

temptations-singer-otis-damon-harris-dies.jpgOtis "Damon" Harris, the youngest member of The Temptations until 1975, has passed away at the end of a 14-year battle against prostate cancer. The Baltimore Sun reports Harris died in hospice care? at the age of 62.

Harris joined the Motown Records group in 1971 at the age of 21, more than a decade junior to his bandmates. A big fan of the act in his teens, Harris had started a Temptations vocal tribute group, "The Young Tempts" before becoming an official member of the hit group.

During his time with The Temptations, Harris won three Grammys and nine gold records. He left the group in 1975. Harris was a Baltimore native, who family spokesman Chuck Woodson says predicted the Ravens' Super Bowl win early int he 2012 NFL season. "He rubbed it in on me, too," says Woodson. "No sooner than the game was over -- 'What did I tell you?'"

Following Harris' cancer diagnosis, he become an advocate for regular prostate screenings and was active with the Stand Up to Cancer organization. Woodson says Harris "didn't want anyone to suffer the consequences that he suffered for not doing that."
