Credit card rates were unchanged this week, according to Bankrate's latest survey of interest rates. The average annual percentage rate for variable-rate credit cards stayed steady at 15.13 percent for the third straight week. The fixed rate remained at 13.33 percent, also for the third consecutive week.
Beginning this week, retailers now can charge a checkout fee to customers using a credit card under a preliminary settlement between retailers and Visa, MasterCard and major banks. The surcharge allows retailers to recoup the fees they are charged by Visa, MasterCard and the banks for accepting credit cards.
