On Monday, April 2 Agnes Scott College announced that the Southeastern Writing Center Assoc. (SWCA) named a grant after Christine Cozzens,?Charles A. Dana Professor and Chair of English and Director of Agnes Scott?s Center for Writing and Speaking. This is the first grant named after a person in the history of the organization.
The grant (officially named the SWCA Christine Cozzens Research and Initiative Grant?will be awarded to tutors and administrators of Writing Centers in the 9 states SWCA to fund research, innovation and scholarship.
?Dr. Cozzens has truly helped Agnes Scott College?s name become one of the most reputable in the writing center field, and I know many of her former staff members have gone on to very successful careers after working with her. The SWCA is honored to have benefitted from Dr. Cozzen?s contributions, and we are excited to now extend our own contributions to the field in her name,? said Kevin Dvorak, vice president of the International Writing Centers Association and past president of SWCA (Megan Teraso, Agnes Scott Office of Communications)
Cozzens joined the Agnes Scott faculty in 1987 after receiving her B.A. and M.A. from Stanford University and her Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkley. Cozzens has served on the executive board of SWCA since 1989 and founded the?organization?s?journal, Southern Discourse in 1998.
