Opened last June, the new $50 million Wild Turkey distillery in Lawrenceburg, Ky., is the state's first major distillery expansion in decades. A computer-equipped control room runs the entire 134,000-square-foot space, using Rockwell Automation's PlantPAx Process Automation System to sync the plant's operations under a single umbrella. Plant operators can now oversee the whole process from grain unloading to barrel filling without leaving their seats.
Additional upgrades include a water-recycling program and a renewable-fuel system. Oh, and the best part: The new distillery can also produce twice as much bourbon as before (up to 11 million gallons of bourbon annually).
