REAL ESTATE: German journalist covering Inland foreclosures ...
A journalist working for a German radio and television network was in Inland southern California with a producer and camera crew this week covering the foreclosure crisis. I met her in the encampment of journalists outside the home of Arturo de los Santos, the 46 year old man who was waiting for his family to be evicted from the home in Riverside they lost to foreclosure and later reoccupied.
The journalist, Hanni Husch, said she works for ARD German Radio TV, an organization of public service broadcasters, and is normally based in Washington, DC. She said in her coverage leading up to the U.S. Presidential election, she decided that the economy would be the dominant issue and that the biggest thorn in the side of the economy that nobody has been able to extract is the bust in the housing market.
So Husch got out of the nation?s capital and went to what she called ?ground zero? of the foreclosure crisis, Inland Southern California. Husch said Germans are horrified by the vision of large numbers of ordinary, hard working Americans having their homes foreclosed and sold at auction. She said Germans have strong emotional ties to their houses and typically will buy one house in a lifetime, pay it off, and leave it to their heirs. They would never consider buying a house they could not afford or getting deep in debt. ?We are savers,? she said.

The Bond which can arrive between a person plus a dog snuggie might be exceptionally robust, especially if that bond had been strengthened dwelling with one another for quite some time, We have personally cried right after loosing our family members pet that had been like a very best friend to me from my birth till I as fifteen a long time previous, when he was hit by an automobile one morning.
Puppies serve lots of distinctive wants for folks. Lots of people have a dog simply because they are lonely and need a loyal companion or simply because they want a puppy to guard the house. A pet dog that is definitely taken fantastic care of and given attention to frequently will give his existence that will help guard his home and his owner. For the blind a puppy might be a pair of eyes to help them get close to and for that police a puppy could be a very important resource and a loyal partner, by using a nose that absolutely nothing can beat.
The first point you should know about taking care of a canine is the fact that pet dogs want tons of dog snuggie work out. This can be the exact for substantial canines and small dogs. All puppies should be let out at the least once each 8 hrs and really should supplied no less than a twenty minute stroll to give the dog some fresh air, exercising along with a opportunity to alleviate themselves.
Additionally it is vital that you engage in with all the canine often. This will imply really going to your park on the weekend or day off and having a good recreation of fetch, tossing the ball all-around as part of your again property or simply wrestling about the floor while using pet dog, just be certain when you are ruff housing using a little canine which you don?t unintentionally harm the dog. Enjoying along with the pet to get a half hour on a daily basis, is simply not only good to the dogs physical wellness but a dig that may be performed with frequently is mentally more healthy and a smaller amount likely to become a frustrated pet, additionally, it lowers your blood pressure level also and it will form an unbreakable bond among both you and your pooch, which will prolong on your family members when you need to start out owning one immediately after obtaining the pet.
Whatever you feed your pet may be very important to the pet dogs ongoing excellent wellness. The higher dog snuggie will likely be marked for exactly what are groups the foods is suitable for. Youthful canines want specific vitamins and minerals in even larger quantities then an grownup pet, along with the same goes for an elderly pet dog they require additional calcium within their foodstuff to aid safeguard their bones and joints. Feeding your puppy the wrong meals can stunt the dog?s progress and opens the dog to a even larger threat of surgical procedures once they are older.
Just like anyone a dog must be taken to the veterinarian?s business office every 6 months, and should acquire their pictures yearly. Common checkups and vaccinations may even help assure that your dog grows to generally be an aged content puppy.

FX Rogue | Online
Every single day, hundreds of thousands of trades are created inside a currency exchange industry referred to as Currency trading. The phrase ?Forex? straight stems fx rogue review from the start of two phrases ? ?foreign? and ?exchange?. Not like other investing solutions like the stock marketplace, Foreign exchange is not going to include the investing of any items, bodily or representative. In its place, Currency trading operates by way of shopping for, offering, and buying and selling involving the currencies of assorted economies from world wide. For the reason that Fx market place is really a intercontinental buying and selling process, trades are created twenty-four hours a day, 5 times weekly. Furthermore, Currency trading isn?t bound by any just one regulate company, which suggests that Fx is definitely the only genuine free of charge current market financial investing method out there currently. By leaving the exchange costs from any a single group?s palms, it really is a lot extra tricky to even try to manipulate or corner the currency current market. With all the rewards affiliated together with the Fx method, as well as the world wide collection of participation, the Foreign exchange promote could be the major market place within the overall planet.
Everywhere involving one trillion and one.five trillion equivalent America bucks are traded within the Fx market place each individual and each individual day.
So relatively than guidebook you via a structured internet site with much more points via different sections; they normally utilize this pitch web page and so they frequently pack it with data in addition to a ton of tricky offering. It has demonstrated to get the craze and it is really gotten more challenging and tougher for a few EAs to industry their application devoid of these kinds of pitch pages. It really is frequently the situation with electronic solutions and or/stuff you?ll be able to get on the internet. With regards to these make-money-online and Fx web-sites they normally have got a great deal of flash to them and naturally several items to draw buyers in. Actually it is really not a great deal various from every other kind of promoting, most definitely not the likes of other financial systems, and so forth. They ought to have some kind of attractiveness and be aggressive. My summary is the fact that even though it appears like it may be a rip-off, do your research anyhow and it might not be. It just is dependent. Some important things are indications, but in my view world wide web layout and tricky offering usually are not immediate symptoms of the rip-off.
Even though from the Forex trading Industry a little something to hope for could be charts and evidence.
Most fx possibilities investing is executed by means of phone as you can find only some forex trading brokers delivering on line forex trading solution buying and selling platforms.
Forex trading Possibility Defined ? A forex trading possibility is often a economic currency agreement supplying the forex trading selection customer the correct, although not the obligation, to obtain or promote a certain forex trading spot agreement (the fundamental) in a precise price tag (the strike selling price) on or previously a particular date (the expiration date). The number the currency trading alternative customer pays on the foreign exchange alternative seller for that foreign exchange possibility agreement legal rights is termed the forex trading solution ?premium.?
The Fx Solution Purchaser ? The customer, or holder, of the foreign currency selection has the alternative to possibly offer the foreign currency selection agreement just before expiration, or she or he can decide to maintain the foreign currency solutions agreement right up until expiration and exercising her or his appropriate to get a place while in the fundamental spot foreign currency. The act of doing exercises the foreign currency choice and getting the subsequent fundamental situation during the foreign currency spot promote is called ?assignment? or becoming ?assigned? a spot placement.
As I claimed previously mentioned, the foreign exchange buying and selling is regarded as among the list of most lucrative and desirable possibilities for expense as any individual can quickly do in your house or workplace and from any a part of the earth.
For succeeding the Fx trading, someone is simply not demanded to complete any on the internet advertising, promoting and so forth. The one prerequisite during the Fx trading may be the account that somebody is needed to open up with trusted and registered brokers, a pc program and rapid online link.
Now, you might have for being mindful when opening a Foreign exchange account with any broker mainly because some could possibly be Rip-off. The Commodity Futures Buying and selling Commission (CFTC) in US has jurisdiction more than all Futures and Currency trading exercise. When investing inside the foreign exchange markets, people really should only trade that has a CFTC registered entity that is definitely also a member in the Country wide Futures Association (NFA) and is also controlled with the CFTC. For non-US broker/ financial institution entities, ensure which the broker or lender is registered with that country?s ideal regulatory bodies.
The simple most noticeable remedy is certainly ? on the net! On line foreign currency trading offers you immediate entry for the currency trading industry and there is heaps and a lot of providers on the market who?re in organization only to offer with you on the net. Be vigilant, do commit time for getting some excellent currency trading training, once more this may be supplied on the internet and build your dummy account to trade prior to you try and go reside. WASHINGTON (AP) ? Days before a crucial Republican presidential primary in Michigan, President Barack Obama is claiming credit for the U.S. auto industry rebound in the state.
His re-election campaign is launching a new television ad in the state on Friday highlighting the revival of General Motors and Chrysler following a multibillion-dollar federal bailout.
The ad notes that none of the Republican presidential hopefuls supported federal intervention and that Mitt Romney once penned a column titled "Let Detroit Go Bankrupt."
Romney and rival Rick Santorum are locked in a tight contest in Michigan, which votes Tuesday. The contest has become a must-win one for Romney, a Michigan native whose father was an auto company executive and governor of the state.

Further Thoughts on Homeschooling, Liberalism, and Special ...
I?ve been overwhelmed and gratified by the huge response to my Slate essay on secular, liberal homeschooling?especially Astra Taylor?s deeply thought rebuttal at N+1, which I highly recommend. Taylor maintains that her original piece was not prescriptive: that she does not believe progressive homeschooling is practical or right for all children, simply that considering its benefits?its child-centered ideology and disdain for testing?is a useful thought experiment when contemplating how to improve education broadly.?
To me, the salient question is how we get from point A) a public school system that isn?t doing a good enough job educating many kids, especially the neediest, to point B) a public school system that is more equitable and higher quality. Does the increasing prominence of homeschooling?both in terms of raw numbers of families joining the movement and homeschooling?s growing role in the political debate over education?serve this purpose? I continue to believe it does not, because it is difficult to improve an institution without broad buy-in into it.
Furthermore,?I?m concerned that the deep cynicism about public education reflected in Taylor?s original N+1 essay and other statements from progressive homeschoolers and unschoolers--in which schools are compared to prisons and public school educators are depicted as vicious enforcers of class and race hierarchies--only serves to lessen support for this crucial social institution.?
I received dozens of emails since Slate published my piece, most from politically liberal parents eager to share stories of how homeschooling allows their own children to flourish through field trips, hands-on projects, and curricula molded to their quirky interests. Others told me they believe their child?s special physical, emotional, or intellectual needs can not be adequately served by schools; this is a wrenching challenge for millions of families with special-needs children, and one I should have acknowledged in my piece. (Later in this essay, I?ll address special education at greater length.)
But my Slate piece was not about the benefits or drawbacks of homeschooling for?particular families or children. Rather,?my piece was about the educational needs of society at-large.?To clarify my own position, I do not think homeschooling should be illegal, and I acknowledge it may be the best option for a relatively small population of disabled and special-needs kids.?My own belief is that when?it comes to the typical child, however, homeschooling does not comport with crucial social justice values related to investing in the common good, and so I?d urge parents concerned with social justice?both broadly and in terms of their own children?s development?to think twice about making this choice.
The debate the article sparked, especially on the left, illuminates a deeper divide: What kind of liberalism does one subscribe to?one primarily concerned with the common good, or one primarily concerned with individual rights??Obviously a good society is made up of a careful, Rawlsian balancing of both these interests. But I believe?American liberalism weighs private interests and ?choice? too heavily, and that our society would be strengthened by more shared institutions and experiences, including in education.
Though just about 2 million children are homeschooled?compared to 55 million children in the public school system?homeschoolers are amazingly well organized, and have successfully lobbied many in the Republican Party to abandon their previous support for education spending and for federal and even state school improvement efforts. As secular progressives join the homeschooling movement in greater numbers, perhaps they will disassociate it somewhat from its outright hostility toward public education and efforts to improve it; one need not participate in a public institution to support it politically.
Yet as the political theorist Corey Robin deftly noted in our Twitter exchange about homeschooling, the social programs with the deepest support in the United States are those, like Medicare and Social Security, into which we all invest. In other Western democracies that have a history of greater public investment in education?and histories of greater respect for schooling and intellectual activity more generally?homeschooling and even private schooling is practically unheard of. Those cultural differences are why, as the New York Times reported last week, affluent, foreign-born parents in New York City enroll their children in public schools at nearly double the rate of native-born Americans in the same income bracket.
To respond directly to Taylor?s critique of my piece, I will admit to a romantic strain of thinking in some of my writing on public education. Looking back on the public schools I?ve chosen to report on over the past few years, from Newark to Queens to Denver, it?s true that I consistently visit excellent ones. In part, this is because I am eager to share best practices in the hope they can be replicated; in part, on an ideological level, I want to push back against ?Waiting for Superman?-like thinking, in which charter schools are misrepresented as the only public schools helping low-income children transcend the economic conditions into which they were born.?
That said, I try to stay vigilant about policing Pollyannaish tendencies in my work, knowing I come from a family of public school educators and that I had a generally positive public school experience in a district that was (and remains) in many ways unusual. To this end, my first long-form magazine feature about education entailed revisiting my hometown to confront an issue Taylor brings up in her rebuttal to my piece: the problematic history of de facto tracking by race and class in integrated public schools.
But the fact of the matter is, if there?s one reason to feel romantic about American public education, it?s that the public school system is required to educate all children, regardless of disability-status, behavioral problems, or whether or not they have parents actively engaged in their child?s education. Here is Section One of Title XI of the New York State Constitution:
The legislature shall provide for the maintenance and support of a system of free common schools, wherein all the children of this state may be educated.
The history of American public education is a history of efforts to make good on the Common School movement?s promise of universal, quality education. The Education and Secondary Education Act, signed into law by President Johnson in 1965, gave the federal government a new, aggressive role in supplementary funding for the education of disadvantaged children. When Congress passed the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act in 1975, it prevented states and districts from excluding special-needs children from public education.
It would be a farce to claim all public schools are doing a good-enough job at serving special-needs kids. But at least within the public system, parents have legal recourse when they believe their children are not being adequately served. In New York City, for example, there?s a fantastic organization called Advocates for Children that provides disabled kids, low-income kids, foster kids, and other disadvantaged populations with attorneys to represent their interests in confrontations with the public schools.
This is in marked contrast to the homeschooling cooperatives and radical ?free schools? I discuss in my Slate piece, in which ?problem? children may be completely excluded. In the Brooklyn preschool cooperative Sonia Songha joined, ?things got ugly? after the teacher suggested one child needed an individual aide, a common service public schools provide to kids on the autism spectrum, for example, or who are hearing-impaired. As parents in the co-op fought over whether to hire and how to fund an aide, two families pulled out.
And while the private Albany Free School Taylor visits in her N+1 essay is a fascinating (though, as Taylor admits, un-scalable) experiment in social-justice oriented education, it is not required to educate all children. Taylor writes:
At the time of my visit the staff had just dismissed a student for the first time in the school?s history. The boy, 10 years old and extremely large for his age, was angry and aggressive, intimidating and hitting his classmates without provocation. His peers knew his home life was tough, but their empathy didn?t deter him from terrorizing them. The whole community?teachers and students?held a meeting and, after discussing the issue at length, voted to have him leave.
Public school teachers and students are not allowed to vote any child out of a school.
Last spring I reported from Providence, Rhode Island and met Betsy Blanchette, a public school psychologist who specializes in working with children on the autism spectrum. Because the state of Rhode Island is required to provide free services to all disabled kids, Blanchette spends her day shuttling between up to six schools, some of them private schools, where she meets with students for counseling and with parents and teachers to design plans to educate special-needs children.
In 2010, Blanchette won an award as educator of the year from the Asperger?s Association of New England. She was nominated by the parents of a high-functioning autistic first-grader whose small private school had become overwhelmed by his needs. Reluctantly, the parents approached the Providence public schools for help; Blanchette was assigned to the case. She began meeting with the boy once a week to work on basic social skills, like how to interpret physical mannerisms or stay calm if a teacher ?redirects??changes directions for an activity mid-stream, a very confusing thing for a child on the autism-spectrum to understand, since they tend to be highly-literal and rules-oriented. Blanchette encouraged the family to enroll their son in public school, and then convinced the district to hire a full-time aide to attend class alongside the boy. Today he is in a fifth-grade inclusion classroom and doing well.
In this case, only the public school system had the expertise, resources, and legal responsibility to serve this particular child. And at the end of the day, that?s why homeschooling is severely limited as an education reform thought-experiment. Because the vast majority of two-income and single-parent families will never be able to homeschool or afford private school, we need to pursue educational equality within the confines of the public school system we have?a system that is constantly struggling, in a legally-accountable way, to balance the needs of individual children with the needs of the community at-large. The more of us engage in this struggle, by enrolling our kids in public schools and supporting public schools politically, the better these institutions will be.
Update: I forgot to mention that a few homeschoolers wrote to me saying they also believe investing in the common good is very important, so despite pulling their kids out of public schools, they have them volunteer, visit cultural institutions, and do other activities related to giving back. This is great, but again, this is the private liberalism of piecemeal philanthropy, not the sort of public liberalism I support, in which we build strong, shared social institutions capable of systemically addressing poverty.
Update 2: Yes, of course the choice of where to live, in terms of moving to a "better" school district, severely impacts educational equality and buy-in to the common good, as well--and is far more common than homeschooling. Click here and here to learn about ways to lessen the negative impact of residential segregation on schooling.
Update 3: A really smart response to the debate, from my friend Sara Mead.

Mardi Gras recipes | MNN - Mother Nature Network
It?s always amazing how quickly the Mardi Gras celebration seems to creep up after New Year, isn?t it? It just doesn?t seem like it should be time yet for Mardi Gras, but for the past week New Orleans has been party central as revelers have lined the streets for nightly parades.
?
The big feasting day, of course, is Fat Tuesday, the day before the start of Lent. Many Christians give up something during the 40 days of Lent, often sweets or alcohol. Fat Tuesday ? a day of indulgence ? is the day to get it all in before the self-imposed fast.
?
Whether you?re preparing to fast during this season or you simply want to join the Fat Tuesday celebration, here are some Mardi Gras recipes to create your own special feast if you can?t make it to New Orleans this year.?
The drinks
Hurricane ? The Mardi Gras Hurricane is probably named so because after one or two of them, you feel like you?ve been hit by a storm the next morning. Vodka, gin, two types of rum and amaretto go into this fruity drink. It?s not for the faint of heart or the person with the car keys, but if you want to celebrate in true New Orleans' style, some version of the Hurricane should be on the menu.?
Virgin Hurricane ? Let the kids, and the designated driver, enjoy a Mardi Gras drink, too. This version of the drink is non-alcoholic, but it still looks like what everyone else is drinking.?
The food
Slow Cooker Louisiana Red Beans and Rice ? If you have to work on Fat Tuesday and don?t have a lot of time to cook when you get home at night, this slow cooker recipe is perfect. You'll need to brown the sausage and saut? some vegetables on the stovetop first, but that can be done the night before if necessary. After eight hours of cooking on low, you?ll come home to the main part of your Mardi Gras feast ready to eat.?
Red Beans and Rice Salad ? Traditionally, Fat Tuesday is not a meatless celebration. It?s a day to indulge, after all. But, there?s no law that says you have to eat meat on Fat Tuesday, either. This salad gets its flavor from a Creole vinaigrette instead of pork, and it?s fresh and filling.?
Shrimp Etouffee ? This classic Cajun dish holds back on the spice so everyone in the family can enjoy it. A dark roux creates a rich, creamy base for this stew-like dish that is served over rice. If you can get them, crawfish can be substituted for the shrimp.?
The desserts
Bread Pudding with Bourbon Sauce ? This New Orleans staple is a very rich (eight egg yolks, heavy cream!), sweet bread pudding with a sauce so decadent, it?s best to leave this for the once-a-year Mardi Gras celebration. It?s perfect served 30 minutes after it comes out of the oven.?
Beignets ? Beignets are a classic Mardi Gras dessert (or breakfast). Crispy fried dough covered in powdered sugar doesn?t sound that amazing, but when done right, it?s delicious. Paired with a rich cup of coffee, you could start or finish your Fat Tuesday with a beignet or two.?
King Cake ? The King Cake is the ultimate Fat Tuesday dessert. It?s shaped like a ring, and traditionally, a little prize (often a plastic baby to symbolize baby Jesus) is hidden inside. Whoever gets the piece of cake with the prize is supposed to hold the feast the next year. Another tradition is to use various colored icing or sprinkle the cake with colored sugars, as in this recipe. However, if you?re concerned about artificial food dyes, leaving them out won?t change the taste of the cake at all.?

Remember, the final decisions are always your own, if you can?t get that concept, perhaps you are not ready to be a business owner. You will not always agree with your manager one hundred percent of the time. Take ideas and suggestions into consideration, but do not take them for law.
Wouldn?t it be great if you had someone that could take on that responsibility for you; coordinate all of the activities of your team members; oversee projects to make sure nothing gets missed; be the go-to person when problems or issues arise? Well then, allow me to introduce you the concept of the Online Business Manager.
An online business manager can grow their compensation differently as well. Instead of simple hourly fees or retainers, a manager can increase their fees with commission based rates directly tied to the work and recommendations they make. The training necessary to take your virtual assistant practice to one of a managerial role is expensive for a company to take on and impossible to outsource.
An internet business consultant is a relatively new phenomena, these are specialists who examine every aspect of you business to ensure that your online business is a success. An internet business consultant will go into an organisation and examine the way in which the business operates online and looks to improves this; IM and SEO is just one element of a successful online business.
When marketing and promoting your new website, it?s important that you stick with ?legal? techniques, also known as white hat. Everyday the search engines are getting smarter, and every day they are banning websites that do not comply with their rules, regulations, terms and conditions. The last thing any business owner wants is to invest in an SEO company, only to find out that they were using blackhat methods and got your site banned from Google.
Typically, online business management programs would have courses in subjects such as developing procedures for communicating with suppliers and customers of a small business, developing procedures for addressing problems in a business, the course looks at how to plan the management of staff in a business, how to develop strategies for managing production in a business or department within a larger organization and so much more.
The training is the catalyst for turning an assistant into a manager. Being efficient in up-to-date marketing techniques will help you identify the new cutting-edge technologies that will help build your client?s business grow into the future. They need a manager that can do the research necessary to take part in the new Internet marketing game. What?s the next big thing they need to be a part of?
Along with all these things going on simultaneously it would be of great assistance to keep an eye on affiliate performance along with track sales in an effective manner. It suggests that you monitor the way the system is working. With this you can also make amendments wherever essential.

Current in Fishers ? Why is my agent pushing for an umbrella policy?
Question from Robby H. of West Clay:
My insurance agent is always trying to sell me an umbrella policy. Is this something I should consider adding? It just seems like an extra cost.? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
It sounds like you have a good agent. I always encourage my clients to at least consider adding the extra layer of liability protection an umbrella/catastrophe policy will add. An umbrella policy is really all about having the peace of mind in knowing your family and assets are protected.
There are many ways to end up with an umbrella claim, but the most common umbrella claim is an auto accident involving multiple injuries and very costly medical bills. The other common claim is an incident on your property that results in injury.
This is definitely a topic you should discuss with your independent insurance agent to make sure you are protected by a level of coverage you are comfortable with. Most people should be pretty comfortable with a coverage limit of $1 million, but limits more than $10 million are available if you are looking for higher limits.
There are some things that make a claim more likely, such as having a pool, living on a lake, having a young driver and owning a boat/ATV/snow mobile (basically anything fun). Instead of talking about prevention this week, I want to show a couple of claim scenarios to illustrate how an umbrella policy will work.
Scenario one: The insured?s son was driving his car on a short road trip with a friend, the claimant. The car drifted off the road and into a phone pole when the son fell asleep at the wheel. The passenger was hospitalized for more than a month with broken bones and internal injuries. The hospitalization was followed by some time in a wheelchair, but he was able to walk again after six months of physical therapy. This claim cost $800,000, with $300,000 coming from the auto limits and $500,000 coming from the umbrella limits.
Scenario two: The insured is having a summer barbeque and one of the guests step off the edge of a retaining wall, resulting in a spinal cord injury. He required multiple surgeries, an extended hospital stay and physical therapy. This claim cost $1.8 million, with $1 million coming from the homeowners limits and $800,000 coming from the umbrella limits.

Russian TV faces probe over protests coverage (AP)
MOSCOW ? Russian prosecutors are investigating how an independent television station covered December's massive opposition rallies ? with an eye on whether the U.S. or other foreign powers funded the broadcasts, the channel and the lawmaker pursuing the probe said Thursday.
The investigation of the Dozhd station follows a management shakeup at Russia's top independent radio station. The moves signal that the government, which already controls much of Russian media, is increasingly nervous that the two independent media outlets will serve as platforms for opponents of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
The rallies in Moscow drew tens of thousands of people angry over December's fraud-tainted parliamentary election, which was won by United Russia, Putin's party. Putin has accused the U.S. of instigating the protests, which have challenged his bid to reclaim the presidency in March's election.
Dozhd's head Nataliya Sindeyeva posted a copy of the prosecutors' letter, which says the probe is conducted on a request by Robert Shlegel, a lawmaker with Putin's party. Shlegel asked the prosecutors to unveil "sources of the financing" of the rallies' coverage.
Shlegel told Dozhd in an phone interview Thursday that he wants to find out "where these activities were financed from ? Russian sources, foreign, or maybe American funds." He said he requested the probe because the privately owned station acted like "a media sponsor and part organizer of these events."
The channel said its lawyers are working to respond to the prosecutors' request.
Dozhd, which has been broadcasting online and through cable and satellite networks since 2010, has become a household name for smart journalism thanks to its extensive coverage of protests and opposition politicians.
Staffed by some of Russia's most prominent journalists, Dozhd is popular among urbanites who shun government propaganda on nationwide TV stations, which are all controlled by the state. It was the only television station to offer full live coverage of protest rallies in December and January.
Authorities previously had stayed away from intervening into the activities of independent media outlets because their coverage and existence helped deflect foreign criticism of Russia's shrinking media freedoms and provided a safety valve for public discontent.
But that reticence appears to be going away.
On Tuesday, the editor of Russia's leading independent radio station, Ekho Moskvy, said its management was being changed in an effort to restrict on-air criticism of the government ahead of the March 4 presidential election.
The media arm of state-controlled natural gas giant Gazprom, which holds two-thirds of the shares, is tightening its hold over the board of directors, editor Alexei Venediktov said.
Gazprom Media took the action after Putin last month accused the station of serving the foreign policy interests of the United States and "pouring diarrhea" on him all day.

Entrapped Takes Redstone Top Prize | BU Today | Boston University
Entrapped, a comedy about a young woman?s efforts to lose a clinging boyfriend, took the top prize at the 2012 Redstone Film Festival Wednesday night. Written, directed, and edited by Maggie Kimball (COM?12), the quirky comedy had the packed house at the Tsai Performance Center laughing throughout its nine-minute run.
?I?m shocked I won. I was hoping for maybe third place,? said Kimball, who took home a $2,000 cash prize. ?I think people could relate to my film because everyone?s gone through a crazy or bad breakup.? Kimball said the film would have ?fallen to crap? if it weren?t for actors Alex Highsmith (CFA?11), Edmund Donovan (CFA?12), and Sydney Lemmon (CFA?12).
Second place went to Julian Cornwell (COM?10) and Harry Joseph (COM?10), directors of Long Way Home, a suspenseful tale of two brothers who are on the run. The Runner, a dramatic film by Jim Dandee (COM?13), took third place. The short film, about a young woman?s struggle with a haunting memory, was shot on Boston?s Esplanade.
?I thought all of the nominated films were strong,? said festival coordinator Jan Egleson, a College of Communication associate professor of the practice of film and television. ?They were all really interesting, and different. They showed what BU does and what we do well.?
The 32nd annual Redstone Film Festival, sponsored by media mogul Sumner Redstone (Hon.?94), chair of Viacom, showcased films and screenplays created by undergraduate and graduate students in COM filmmaking and screenwriting programs. This year?s contest saw 40 films submitted, and 6 were deemed finalists by a committee of production, screenwriting, and film-studies graduates.
The festival winners were then selected by a panel of film industry professionals, made up this year of Carolyn Pickman, cofounder and director of CP Casting and Acting Studio; filmmaker Lyda Kuth, executive director of the LEF Foundation, a nonprofit that supports contemporary work in film; and ?filmmaker and cinematographer D?arcy Marsh.
The other 2012 Redstone finalists were Padrick Ritch (COM?12), director of Limbus, the story of a man?s flashbacks before a proposal; Anna Gerstenfeld (COM?12), Emma Kazarian (COM?11), Stephen Matter (COM?11), and Chandler Stephen (COM?12), the team behind TAG, about a duel between a young graffiti artist and an anonymous tagger; and Ron Utin Lalkin (COM?11), director of Guppy Love, a romantic comedy about a fish biologist on a blind date.
The winners of the Fleder-Rosenberg short screenplay contest, sponsored by screenwriters Gary Fleder (COM?85) and Scott Rosenberg (COM?85), were also announced at last night?s festival.?Rachel Tesler (COM?13) won the $1,250 first place prize for her screenplay?Little Lost Puppy, Julia Iglesias (COM?14) took the $750 second place award for?Coming Out, and in third place was Samuel Laskey (COM?13), receiving $500 for The Crib.
In addition to the three winners, the finalists for the Fleder-Rosenberg competition were Jason Mark Hellerman (COM?12), Nancy; Sharon Zemina (COM?12), Leaves of Love; Leah Thomas (COM?13), If We Shadows Have Offended; and Joseph Dwyer (COM?13), Clean Copy.
New this year was the Adrienne Shelly Production Grant. Shelly (COM?87), a producer, writer, and actress, was tragically murdered in her New York City home in 2006. She was most famous for directing The Waitress, which played at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival.
Shelly?s husband, Andy Ostroy, executive director of the Adrienne Shelly Foundation, attended last night?s Redstone Festival to award the first Adrienne Shelly Production Grant, which went to Kim Rideout (COM?12) for her script The Doghouse. Rideout will use the $5,000 prize to produce the film in her Production III class.
Paul Schneider, a COM associate professor and department chair, noted that the top prizes in the three categories, film, screenplay, and the new one, the Adrienne Shelly Production Grant, all went to women. Schneider said he hoped to see more women in the top-level production classes at COM.
The Boston Redstone Film Festival is followed in March by Redstone festivals in New York and Los Angeles. New and different films will be competing in those festivals. The Redstone Alumni Short Film Competition, started last year, is open to film and television alumni. The winning film will be shown at the Los Angeles screening, along with those of the finalists in the student competition. This year?s alumni winner gets $500.

Exploiting Innovation for market dominance: A case for Technology ...
Government of India has declared this decade (2011 -20) as the ?Decade of Innovations?. Manmohan Singh has promised to increase R&D spending from 0.9% to 2% of GDP by 2017. MSMEs are economic growth engines for developed and more for the developing country like India. With this notion, InnovAccer ? an Indian Innovation Management firm collaborates with Yourstory.in to create awareness of Innovation and Intellectual Property amongst startups. Starting from today, InnovAccer will release one article every week for 20 weeks to help startups gear up to innovate in the right direction and protect intellectual property at its best.
Anyone can run a business, but running a sustainable business depends on whether you provide cost advantage to the customer or present to them new innovative products or services. With fluctuating economy worldwide, cost advantage is no more a reliable strategy. Even China who is a master of providing cost advantage has initiated innovation strategies after rise in their labor cost. Multi-National Corporations have huge assembly lines and supply chains in process to release out a product within months, while startups have to rely on their innovative technology which is unique in the marketplace. Thus, Innovation and protecting that innovation is a key to sustainable growth of a technology start-up.
Let?s shift our gears to economic advantages of obtaining a patent besides its value for exclusive right protection. Consider a scenario below, wherein figures represent cost of production. Company II is playing on cost advantage and ruling the market share. Now assume that company I obtained a patent. Whole market scenario changes from thereon. Company II and III have to give license fees to Company I and thus Company I has cost advantage over Company II and III.
A company like company III which has neither cost or innovation advantage loses the race. While innovation company I always wins the race.
Future posts will cover stimulating and resourceful articles on how to exploit patents to create?& benefit your business and make it into a sustainable model.

South Canterbury Finance five ready to fight | Stuff.co.nz
Timaru lawyer Ed Sullivan and retired accountant Bob White are looking forward to their day in court and the chance to clear their names.
Name suppression for the pair ended at 10am yesterday, meaning the names of all five of the South Canterbury Finance (SCF) accused facing charges can now be revealed.
Between them they face 21 charges worth $1.7 billion laid by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO).
The other three accused waived their right to name suppression earlier.
They are former SCF chief executive Lachie McLeod, Timaru chartered accountant Terry Hutton, and former SCF chief financial officer Graeme Brown.
The five were to appear in Timaru District Court yesterday. However, the registrar received applications to remand the defendants to Monday, May 28 for a post committal conference.
All defendants have issued press releases through their lawyers denying the allegations and signalling they will be defended.
In a statement through his lawyer, Sullivan said he was innocent and would vigorously defend the allegations.
White's lawyer, Wellington QC Bruce Squire, said he was concerned about recent statements made by the director of the SFO to the news media about the nature and extent of the alleged offending disclosed by the collapse of SCF.
"These matters were only allegations still to be proved and that it was difficult to escape the conclusion that the director's comment seemed designed to raise the stakes in a way which might well be likely to be prejudicial to the defendants' right to a fair trial before an impartial jury."
SFO chief executive Adam Feeley said he had been very careful about what had been said publicly.
"I am not sure what he (Mr Squire) is talking about.
"We take great care to comply with the solicitor-general's guidelines on media comment.
"It is always a balance between the public's right to know and not prejudicing a trial," Mr Feeley said.
There was no indication when or where the trial of the five would be held, he said.
"We have had discussions with our lawyers but we haven't formed a firm view of where the trial should be."
